As part of Frontex's mission „POSEIDON“ police officers from the Dubrovnik Maritime Police Station rescued 36 migrants

While monitoring the EU maritime border with Turkey as part of Frontex's mission „POSEIDON“, four police officers from the Dubrovnik Maritime Police Station rescued 36 migrants on Monday, February 10th.

On the course from Evros Delta to Makri at the Aegean Sea, a rubber dinghy has been spotted carrying a large number of people that were crying for help. The police officers immediately went to help them and found 36 foreign nationals in poor health, chilled, dehydrated and some of them were unconscious. There were five children, eleven women and 20 men in the group.

The rubber dinghy ran out of fuel, the sea temperature at the time was only 2 ° C  and it is questionable what would have happened to them had they not been rescued.

They were transferred onto the police vessel where the police officers gave them water and warm beverages and warmed them with thermo-foils, and then transferred them to the port of Alexandropolis, where an ambulance was waiting for the rescued persons to provide them with necessary medical attention.

Out of 36 persons in total - five of them were hospitalized, while the rest (after receiving medical assistance), were taken to a reception center, where the next steps will be taken in accordance to the national and European legislative.
