Local border passes – Bosnia and Herzegovina
A local border pass may be issued to persons residing in the border area of Bosnia and Herzegovina not further than 5 kilometres from the border. It is issued for a validity period of 5 years, counting from the date of its issuance, or until a valid travel document on the basis of which it was issued expires.
The Republic of Croatia issues local border passes to persons residing in the border area in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Bosnia and Herzegovina issues local border passes to persons residing in the border area in the Republic of Croatia.
Local border passes are issued if there is any economic, social, family or any other justifiable connection with the border area (work, school, property, etc.).
Applications for local border passes are submitted at a competent police administration/police station or at a diplomatic mission/consular post of the Republic of Croatia in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The decision regarding the application is made by the competent police administration/police station. Applicants collect their local border passes at the premises of the competent authority where they applied for their local border pass.
Local border passes are issued upon a direct personal request of a person who fills in the application form for a local border pass pursuant to Article 7 of the Agreement between the Republic of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina on Local Border Traffic - Appendix D, signed in Brussels, in June 2013.
The following has to be enclosed to the application:
Local border passes are issued for a validity period of 5 years, counting from the date of their issuance, or until a valid travel document on the basis of which they were issued expires, if this time period is shorter. Documents that are enclosed to the application have to be originals or certified copies and foreign documents need to be translated into Croatian and certified in line with special legislation.
New local border passes which contain electronic data storage (RFID chip) have been issued since 1 July 2013.
Biometric local border passes cost 29,86 EUR.
NOTE: The fee in the amount of 29,86 EUR for a biometric local border pass may also be paid via internet banking, to the state budget account, IBAN HR1210010051863000160, model HR65, reference number: 7005-477-OIB (personal identification number (OIB) of an alien who the fee is being paid for).
Aliens who have not been assigned an OIB will have to enter the following reference number: 7005-477-RKP- file number.

- a copy of a valid travel document which will be certified by an authorised officer upon comparing it with the original,
- 2 photographs, 30×35 mm,
- a document on the basis of which one might prove a justifiable need to regularly cross the common state border under the conditions of local border traffic regime, including economic, social, family or any other justifiable connection (a copy of an employment record book, a contract of employment, certificate of school attendance, a copy of a title deed of a piece of land that is being cultivated and similar), which should be dated not more than six (6) months, counting from the day of application,
- a document on the basis of which one might prove residence in the border area, as prescribed by the provisions of the Agreement.
